The Granny Flat Foundation Woman’s Shelter

This year has been a particularly meaningful one for everyone in the Granny Flat Foundation.

One of our most important projects recently came to life with the construction and donation of a two-bedroom granny flat to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter.

For women and children fleeing domestic violence, having access to safe and secure accommodation can make an enormous difference. It can provide a sense of safety, stability and hope while they begin their fresh start.

The new granny flat will offer much-needed emergency accommodation for women and families experiencing domestic violence and homelessness, providing something we all deserve: a safe place to call home.

As the founder of Granny Flat Solutions, I’ve seen first-hand over many years just how important a home can be to a family. We’re a family-owned business, so supporting the communities where we live and work has always been close to our hearts. This commitment was one of the reasons we created the Granny Flat Foundation.

While Granny Flat Solutions designed, built and donated the granny flat, completing the project was truly a community effort. Many of our tradespeople and suppliers generously donated their time, materials and services. We’re extremely grateful to everyone who played a part in making this project possible.

On the 20th of June, we also held our inaugural Charity Gala, bringing together almost 400 guests and raising an incredible $56,650. The funds will help complete the Women’s Shelter project and begin the approval process for our next initiative with The Salvation Army, which will provide further accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.

For me, this project is a reminder of what can be achieved when local businesses and communities come together for a shared purpose.

We build homes every day. Through the Granny Flat Foundation, we have the opportunity to use what we know to help provide a home when it’s needed most.

And this is only the beginning.
